"Looking for Alaska" by John Green

"LOOKING FOR ALASKA"

The book that I’ve read was “Looking for Alaska”, by John Green. It fits in the world of Young Adult and romance, as it revolves around the love chemistry between the main character, Miles, and a girl, Alaska.

The main character, Miles, is a new kid to a boarding school that he went to by choice. Because of his roommate, the “colonel” and his other friends – Alaska, Takumi, and Lara –
They’ve changed Miles’ life. Before, Miles was the type of kid who kept to himself, was friends with everyone but not really, he didn’t attract any attention. Now, at the boarding school, he finally has people to rely on, yet this people have influenced him to try new things, causing him to change.

There’s the Colonel, he takes care of Miles whenever he’s down, and Miles does the same to him. When Miles first met Alaska, he was struck by her beauty, and then fell in love in her, but she couldn’t return the same feelings he has for her.

The main turning point of the story was when Alaska got into a car crash while under the influence of drinking, albeit some thinks that it wasn’t an accident. This was foreshadowed, a little before the event occurred, John Green was clever when he emphasized this foreshadow using italics on certain words, in the chapter before.

“Looking for Alaska,” has the theme which tells the readers about what would happen once you meet that one person who has changed your life, changed how you look at things, and just someone that you’ve become so attached to. But one day, they’re just gone, and you could’ve done something to stop it, but you didn’t.
